🧭 Getting Here  

1.✈️ By Plane 

The Chennai International Airport (MAA) is the nearest airport, located about 12 km from IIT Madras.

• Travel time: 25–40 minutes (depending on traffic)

• Transport options:

  • Prepaid airport taxis available at the terminal exit

  • Ola/Uber cabs via mobile app

  • Auto rickshaws (recommended for short distances)

• Route: Airport → GST Road → Kathipara Junction → Sardar Patel Road → IIT Main Gate (Guindy Gate)

Tip: For international visitors, Chennai Airport has currency exchange counters, SIM card kiosks, and information desks at the arrival hall.

2.🚆 By Train 

Chennai has two main railway stations connected to all parts of India:

• Chennai Central (MAS) – about 14 km from IIT Madras

• Egmore (MS) – about 10 km from IIT Madras

How to reach IIT Madras:

• Take a taxi or auto directly to IIT Main Gate.

• Alternatively, travel by suburban train towards Velachery and alight at Indira Nagar or Kasturbai Nagar stations, both near the campus.

3. 🚌 By Bus 

The city’s MTC buses connect IIT Madras with key areas like Adyar, Guindy, Velachery, T. Nagar, and Chennai Central Station.

• Alight at IIT Main Gate (Guindy Gate) or Velachery Gate.

• Campus e-autos and shuttle vans are available inside to reach IC&SR or TTJ Auditorium.

Bus routes: 5C, 19B, 5E, 23C, and 47A pass near IIT Madras.

4.🚗 By Car / Taxi 

• If you’re driving or taking a cab, enter the campus through the Main Gate (Guindy) on Sardar Patel Road.

After security verification, follow the signs towards the IC&SR Building or TTJ Auditorium (approx. 1.5 km inside campus).

• Visitor parking is available near the auditorium complex.
